KELSO -- John Dominic Mattes, 64, of Kelso, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1991 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 24, 1927 in Mahanoy City, Penn., the son of Damiasso Mattes and Litizia Ghirardini.
He married Mary Jane Wichern Nov. 29, 1947 at Perryville. She survives.
He was a salesman for Paramount Liquor Company for 33 years, retiring in 1987.
He served in the air corps during World War II.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, and the Knights of Columbus Council 6420 in Scott City. He was a Past Grant Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 1111 in Cape Girardeau, a fourth degree member of the Thomas A. Langen Assembly, Knights of Columbus and a charter member and past president of the North Scott County Lions Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Wayne Mattes, Cape Girardeau, David Mattes, Kelso; two daughters, Kathleen Seaman, Florissant, Tina Mattes, Kelso; four brothers, Joseph Mattes, Ringtown, Penn., Benjamen Pedriani, LeHigh Acres, Fla., Emilio Pedriani, Buck Mountain, Penn., Daniel Pedriani, Pottsville, Penn.' four sisters, Helen Shaub, Lancaster, Penn., Elizabeth Flaim, Buck Mountain, Penn., Josephene Gromolski and Mary Long, Mahanoy City, Penn.; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren.
One sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call today at 5 p.m. at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. A Knights of Columbus service will be held at 7 p.m. and parish prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso with the Rev. John Westhues officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
