JONESBORO, Ill. -- John Lyerly, a native of Union County, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at his daughter's home in Sarasota, Fla. He was 67.
He was born Nov. 15, 1930, the son of Grover and Lena M. Lingle Lyerly. He was an Army veteran and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
He was a truck driver for 41 years, retiring from C.W. Transport in 1988. He became an active member of the Teamsters Retirees Club Local No. 279 in Decatur, Ill.
He also was an avid gardener.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 34 years, Ramona J. Robinson.
He is survived by a daughter, Debra A. Burns of Sarasota; a son, Bruce D. Lyerly of Orcana, Ill.; two sisters, Mary Edmonds of Anna, Ill., and Jenevie Sharknas of Flint, Mich.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon until the funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hileman and Parr Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Ill. The Rev. Scott Harner will officiate.
Burial will be at Jonesboro Cemetery.
