John Henry Luchow Jr., 85, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center. He was born April 22, 1920, at Grand Tower, Ill., son of Capt. John Henry and Nell Chamness Luchow. He and Mary Rose Miller were married Aug. 12, 1943, in Cape Girardeau. She died Oct. 27, 2003...

John Henry Luchow Jr., 85, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 22, 1920, at Grand Tower, Ill., son of Capt. John Henry and Nell Chamness Luchow. He and Mary Rose Miller were married Aug. 12, 1943, in Cape Girardeau. She died Oct. 27, 2003.

Mr. Luchow was an airlines pilot, chief pilot for Procter & Gamble, a demonstration pilot for Gulfstream Aero, and then regional vice president with Gulfstream. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head Island.

He was an aviator with the U.S. Navy during World War II, retiring as a commander in the Naval Reserve April 22, 1980. He was a graduate of Central High School in Cape Girardeau, and Northwestern University.

Survivors include two sons, Tom Luchow and wife Cynthia of Milan, Ind., John Luchow of Port Ludlow, Wash.; and two grandsons, Ben Luchow and Henry Luchow of Milan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Cape County Memorial Park, with the Rev. Paul Kabo Jr. officiating.
