CHARLESTON -- John Henry Davis Sr., 80, of Charleston, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 1995, at Charleston Manor.

He was born Nov. 2, 1914, in Charleston, son of James Henry and Mary Lola Dixon Davis. He and Quintella Louise Dawson were married April 24, 1943.

Davis was a retired farmer, and member of Opportunity Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, John Davis Jr. and James Davis of Chicago, Gregory Davis of North Hollywood, Calif., Ronnie Davis of Nashville, Tenn., Oscar Davis of Charleston; eight daughters, Bertha Winston, Anna Davis and Winnie Pierce of Chicago, Delores Matthew of Texas, Avery Davis of Detroit, Equilla Davis of North Hollywood, Janie Biles of Bloomington, Ill., Dorothy Davis of Charleston; two brothers, Ozean Davis of Charleston, L.C. Davis of Chicago; four sisters, Evelyn Dean of Youngstown, Ohio, Emma Davis of Cape Girardeau, Margie Davis of Chicago, Justine Horton of Charleston; 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Opportunity Church, with Steve Betts officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
