WAPPAPELLO, Mo. -- John Daniel Faries, 88, of Wappapello passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, at Monticello House in Jackson.
He was born March 27, 1926, at Mingo, Missouri, to Joseph Cosper and Maime Edna Porterfield Faries.
He and Jessie Irene Cook were married June 23, 1946.
John served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Daniel and Jessie lived in Spearman, Texas, from 1958 until 1987, when he retired as a meter technician from Northern Natural Gas Co.
They moved to Wappapello in 1987 to enjoy their retirement. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, 50-year member of the order of Eastern Star and West View Masonic Lodge, Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite, American Legion and VFW Post 3416 at Wappapello.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth (Sylvia) Faries of Burns, Tennessee; a daughter-in-law, Dara Faries of Prosper, Texas; two brothers, James L. Faries of Williamsville, Missouri, and Joseph P. Faries of Piedmont, Missouri; a sister, Esther Parker of Amarillo, Texas; four grandchildren, Amy (Dan) McCollum of Roanoke, Texas, Stephanie (Eric) Greer of Brentwood, Tennessee, Kara (Robert) Womble of Spearman and Clint (Millie) Faries of Prosper; nine great-grandchildren, Emily, Meg, and Drew McCollum of Roanoke, Ethan, Ella, and Matthew Greer of Brentwood, Kitson and Kalla Womble of Spearman, and Irelyn Faries of Prosper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jessie; a son, Gary Daniel Faries; an older sister, Sylvia Faries Simpson; and an older brother, Durward Faries.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Missouri. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. by West View Masonic Lodge. Visitation also will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church in Wappapello.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with Bruce Pittman officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Wappapello Cemetery.
