John James Edwards, 70, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021.
He was born March 13, 1951, in Cape Girardeau to the late Billie and Lois Hobeck Edwards. He and Charlotte Heuer were married July 15, 1973, at Hanover Lutheran Church.
John was a 1969 graduate of Jackson High School. He worked at World Color Press in Sparta, Illinois, for more than 20 years. He owned and operated Mid-America Sod Farm in Chaffee, Missouri, for more than 30 years. He enjoyed driving his 1969 Camaro.
John was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher and on the Board of Elders.
Family was very important to John; he instilled hard work in his boys and made sure they both went to college. His two granddaughters brought out the softer side of him.
John is survived by his wife, Charlotte Edwards of Cape Girardeau; son, Jonathan (Bria) Edwards, and their daughters, Isabella and Mila of Jackson, and son, Nathan Edwards (Erica Smith and sons, Zach and Tallon) of Cape Girardeau; brother, Billie (Pat) Edwards of Chester, Illinois; sisters, Cheri Cook of Scopus, Missouri, and Carol (Steve) Borgfield of Jackson; brother- and sister-in-law, Ken (Malinda) Heuer of Loudon, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Rick Cook.
Visitation was held Friday at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at the church, with the Rev. Rod Benkendorf officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to Hanover Lutheran Church.
