JONESBORO, Ill. -- John Edward Pender, 61, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., died Monday, Aug. 9, 1993, at his home.

He was born Oct. 27, 1931, in Alto Pass, son of Fred and Helen Rhodes Pender. He was formerly of Jonesboro. He and Carol Schmidt were married Nov. 8, 1957, in South Elgin.

Pender was a retired carpenter. He was a member of Carpenters Local 558 in Glen Ellyn, and Elgin VFW. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; a stepson, David Walbaum of Elgin; a stepdaughter, Pauline Hopman of Streamwood; his mother, Helen King of Granite City; two sisters, Mildred Fox of Jonesboro, Barbara Barlow of Anna; six brothers, Gilbert Pender, Don and Mike Pind of Anna, Paul Pender of Cobden, Fred and Clarence Pind of Jonesboro; a stepbrother, James Pind of Jonesboro; a stepsister, Cuba Willis of Cape Girardeau, and two stepgrandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Norris and Son Funeral Chapel. Military rites will be conducted by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 of Anna.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.
