SIKESTON -- John W. "Red" Davis, 79, of Sikeston died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 17, 1918, in Sikeston, son of Patrick C. and Una Lillian Atherton Davis. He and Zelpha Ann DeWitt were married April 3, 1949, in Piggott, Ark. She died Nov. 9, 1981.
Davis was a 1936 graduate of Sikeston High School, and was a member of its first basketball team to go to the Missouri State High School Basketball Tournament.
He was a clerk at Sikeston Post Office 33 years. He served on the Sikeston Park Board, and was a scoutmaster many years.
Davis was a member of First Baptist Church, and Henry Meldrum American Legion Post 114. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include two sisters, Louise Chandler of St. Louis, and Imogene LaPlant of Sikeston.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with Dr. Jim Guffie and the Rev. Billie Fair officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
