John Cook

ST. LOUIS -- John David Cook, 53, of St. Louis passed Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at Jefferson Barracks VA Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 28, 1963, at Patuxent River Naval Air Base at Patuxent River, Maryland, son of Odell R. "Dick" and Eula "Bernice" Younger Cook.

John was a 1981 graduate of Jackson High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1988 and was honorably discharged in 1992. He was employed in various civil-service jobs.

John moved to Portland, Maine, where he attended college and received a degree as a registered nurse. He returned to St. Louis in 2006 and had been employed at John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis.

Loving survivors include his mother, Eula "Bernice" Bolin, and a brother, Mark Cook, both of Cape Girardeau; a stepsister, Lisa Reed of Seattle; and a stepbrother, Roger Bolin of Norfolk, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Dana and Deborah Sue Cook; and his stepfather, Russel Bolin.

The visitation will be from noon until service time Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by military honors. The Rev. Jimmie Corbin will officiate.

The family suggests contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
