ZALMA, Mo. -- John L. Clayton, 87, of Zalma died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at Capitol Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City, Mo.

He was born April 6, 1913, in Gordonville, Mo., son of Charles and Elizabeth Sweet Clayton.

Clayton served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include four sons, John Clayton of Vienna, Mo., Lloyd, Charles and Malcolm Clayton, all of Ashland, Mo.; a daughter, Sue Clayton of Ashland; and a stepson, Jack Freeman of Hartford City, Ind.

Also surviving are three brothers, Hubert Clayton of Sedgewickville, Mo., James Denton of Springfield, Mo., Wilson Denton of Libby, Mont.; four sisters, Oma Pond of Rockford, Ill., Leona Cawford of Puxico, Mo., Myrtle Slinkard of Jackson, Mo., Dorothy Fisk of Marble Hill, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill from 4:30-8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James N. Brice Jr. officiating. Military rites will be conducted after the service.
