MATTHEWS -- John Ephraim Clarke, 81, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at the Sells Rest Home in Matthews. He was born Sept. 21, 1916, in Peoria, Ill., to Ephraim and Nora Clarke. On Nov. 13, 1969, he married Geraldine Huls at Las Vegas. She died March 9, 1992...

MATTHEWS -- John Ephraim Clarke, 81, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at the Sells Rest Home in Matthews.

He was born Sept. 21, 1916, in Peoria, Ill., to Ephraim and Nora Clarke.

On Nov. 13, 1969, he married Geraldine Huls at Las Vegas. She died March 9, 1992.

He was an organist for a church and had attended the Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston.

He is survived by a son, John Clarke Jr. of San Diego, a daughter, Susan Worden of Alameda, Calif., three grandchildren and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Matthews Cemetery in Matthews.
