BENTON -- John J. Bollinger, 81, of Benton died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 18, 1918, at Benton, son of Victor M. and Clementine Hahn Bollinger. He first married Venita Ann Burger Sept. 27, 1938. She died July 2, 1983. He later married Ola Bee Burger Feb. 12, 1984.
Bollinger was Scott County Recorder of Deeds 40 years, retiring in 1994. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church, Chaffee Elks Lodge 1810, Benton American Legion Post 0369, and 4th Degree member of Sikeston Knights of Columbus Council 3151.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Bollinger II of Lexington, Ky., Chuck Bollinger of Scott City; a daughter, Nancy Bricker of Hickory, N.C.; a stepson, Tom Burger of Perryville; a stepdaughter, Julia Brockmire of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Joe Bollinger of Chaffee, Monroe Bollinger of Benton; two sisters, Viola Dannenmueller and Ann Glenn of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton after 5 p.m. Sunday. An Elks service will be held at 7, and parish prayers will be said at 7:30.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Denis Church, with the Rev. Ralph Duffner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
