John Calvin Blankenship, 86, of Burfordville died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 22, 1934, in Scott County to Joe F. and Nellie F. Grace Blankenship. John and Marilyn Joy Dockery were married April 5, 1953, in Cape Girardeau.
He was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School in 1952.
He served in the National Guard.
He was owner/operator of John Blankenship Sinclair on Broadway in Cape Girardeau for 38 years.
John enjoyed writing poems, and several of his favorites were published in a book.
He was active in Missouri State Championship Walking and Racking Horse Association. He also raised and trained Tennessee walking and racking horses.
He attended Cape County Cowboy Church.
Survivors include daughters, Debbie (Neil) Petty of Whitewater and Pam (Robert) Adams of Jackson; sons, Rick (Chris) Blankenship of Grassy, Missouri, and Brian (Laura) Blankenship of Jackson; sister, Betty (Al) Ashton of Carthage, Missouri; brothers, Bill Blankenship of Dexter, Missouri, and Ronald (Beth) Blankenship of Kevil, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Jackson.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
