John Spann Baumstark, 72, of Omaha, Neb., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha.
He was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Cape Girardeau, son of Herbert F. and Helen L. Spann Baumstark. He married the former Mary A. McConkey.
Baumstark was a biochemist and a professor emeritus at Creighton University Medical School. He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church.
He was a veteran.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Baumstark of Chicago, Karen Porter of Omaha; a son, John Baumstark of Atlanta, Ga.; his mother, Vernice Baumstark of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Harriet Maier and Mary Barnes of Montgomery Village, Md.; a brother, Vincent Baumstark of Port Orange, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today at West Center Chapel in Omaha.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Robert's Church, with the Rev. Donald Shane officiating. Burial will be private.
