ORAN, Mo. — John W. Arbuckle, son of the late Oval and Leva Strickland Arbuckle, was born Nov. 8, 1943, in Charter Oak, Missouri, and departed his life Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023, at his home in Oran at the age of 79.
On July 28, 1963, he was united in marriage to Nadine Engram in Bell City, Missouri. She survives of the home in Oran.
He was a former world history and geography teacher at Kelly High School in Benton, Missouri, and a member of Church of Christ in Vanduser, Missouri. He was Beta Club sponsor at Oran and Kelly high schools for his entire career.
He was a member of the Oran Lions Club for several years and also served as the Oran city treasurer for 30 years and as an Oran alderman.
Besides his wife, survivors include one daughter, Tracy (Jamil) Ahmad of Oran; son, Alan (Michelle) Arbuckle of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Cody (Amy) Smith, Hali (Brett) Maxwell and Amanda and Jack Arbuckle; two great-grandchildren, Sienna Maxwell and Wyatt Smith; and several cousins.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the funeral home, with Brother Ken Harbin and Brother Dan Richardson officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kelly High School in memory of John Arbuckle, 4035 State Highway 77, Benton, MO 63736.
