MCCLURE, Ill. -- Joel E. "Jewell" Monahan, 64, of McClure died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 24, 1941, at Hamp Wallace, Ariz., son of Lee John and Ruth Cook Monahan. He and Joyce Earline Johnson were married Jan. 16, 1973, at Cairo, Ill.
Monahan worked at Jackson Handle Factory in Jackson, Mo., and at Feed Mills in Minco, Okla. He was also engaged in farming.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Cape Girardeau; a stepson, James Turner of Sheboygan, Wis., three stepdaughters, Joyce Harris of Scott City, Karen Adams of Sheboygan, Dorothy Turner of Cribbits, Wis.; two brothers, the Rev. Jimmie Monahan of Thebes, Ill., Otis William Monahan of Carbondale, Ill.; two sisters, Ernestine Webber of Dexter, Mo., Deborah R. Monahan of Cape Girardeau; 15 stepgrandchildren; and six great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Pringle officiating.
Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes.
