Joe Wilson Smith, 90, of Jackson died Friday, March 10, 2017, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Cape Girardeau County to Webster Clyde and Ada Belle Robinson Smith. He and Coleen Simpher Smith were married April 26, 1973, at Jackson.
He served in the Army Air Force in 1945. He was a charter member of the American Legion Post 158 Honor Guard and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10495. He worked at Brennecke Chevrolet for 40 years and had served as a member of the Southeast Missouri District Fair Association for 60 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Coleen Smith of Jackson; sons, Jory (Jo Ann) Smith and Chuck Wolters, both of Jackson; daughters, Beth (Bob) Armstrong of Kansas City, Missouri, and Charlotte Wolters of Washington state; sisters, Doris "Jean" Seabaugh and Mary Marshall, both of Jackson, and Vickie Statler of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Samantha (Blaine) Tidwell, Cory Woods, C.J. Wolters, Annika Wolters, Haley Armstrong, Jessica Armstrong, Laura Leigh Armstrong, Joseph Wolters and Andrew Armstrong; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Erma D. Williams, Thelma "Sis" Himmelsbach and Naomi Crites.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Grant Gillard officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church.
