KENNETT, Mo. -- Joe Reed McGhee, 90, of Kennett departed this life Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett. He was born July 7, 1923, in Braggadocio, Mo., son of Joseph Albert and Odessa Reed McGhee. He and Bessalea Clingingsmith were married Aug. 6, 1952, in San Diego...

KENNETT, Mo. -- Joe Reed McGhee, 90, of Kennett departed this life Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett.

He was born July 7, 1923, in Braggadocio, Mo., son of Joseph Albert and Odessa Reed McGhee. He and Bessalea Clingingsmith were married Aug. 6, 1952, in San Diego.

Joe served in the United States Navy.

He was owner of McGhee's Drive-In, and was a pilot with McGhee Aviation in Kennett. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and First Baptist Church in Kennett.

Survivors include his wife, Bessalea McGhee of Kennett; four sons, Joe David McGhee of Qulin, Mo., Robert Lee McGhee and Kimberly of Versailles, Mo., William Albert McGhee and Pamela of Jackson, and James Reed McGhee and Debbie of Kennett; six grandchildren, Jeremiah Shoji McGhee and Leigh-Ann, Nick Conway and Jenine Conway, Brandon McGhee, FredaMae Christian and Don, James Robert McGhee and Mara Danielle McGhee; six great-grandchildren, Liam McGhee, Eva McGhee, Ethan Christian, Colson Conway, Shayla Conway and Javen Conway; three brothers, Robert "Jimmy" McGhee and Barbara of Kennett, Thomas McGhee and Rosie of Florida and Charles McGhee and Candy of Jefferson City, Mo.; other relatives; and many friends.

Joe Reed was preceded in death by an infant brother, John David McGhee; and two sisters, Odessa Sample and Demaris McGhee.

The family will have a memorial service next spring.

McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
