Joe David Masterson, 84, of Jackson died Saturday April 6, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 9, 1928, in Jackson to Samuel DuRee and Lenora Weltecke Masterson. He and Hazel Lee Meyer were married June 17, 1951, in Jackson. Joe graduated from Jackson High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Thule, Greenland.
Joe farmed the family farm west of town and was a carpenter for Strack Brothers, Bud Strack, Kenny Spooler and Wesbecher Construction.
He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church, Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 and Excelsior Lodge No. 144 AF&AM, where he was lodge secretary for 22 years and held every office in the lodge. He was a 32nd degree Mason; Scottish Rite; and Associate Bethel Guardian for Bethel No. 60 International Order of Job's Daughters for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel; a son, Mark (Ruth) Masterson; a daughter, Carol (Mike) Keen; two sisters, Helen (Joe) Gohn and Pat Davenport all of Jackson; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel DuRee Masterson; and a brother-in-law, James Davenport.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with full military honors.
