DEXTER -- Joe Hunter of Dexter died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. He was 74. DEXTER -- Joe Hunter of Dexter died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. He was 74.

He was born Sept. 7, 1923, in Memphis, Tenn., the son of the late Joe Abner Sr. and Essa Elizabeth Mosley. He married Beverly Webb Greer in Marble Hill on Sept. 30, 1966. She survives.

He owned and operated Dexter Sales and Service for more than 40 years. He had been a resident of Dexter for the past 52 years.

Also surviving are six sons, Tom and Lance Espey and Stacy and Matt Greer, all of Dexter, Joey Hunter of Omaha, Neb., and Tracy Green of Lakenheath, U.K.; two daughters, Melinda Hunter of Las Vegas, Nev., and Debbie Hunter of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four sisters, Floy Bedgood of Rex, Ga., Betty Ann Hunter of Huntsville, Ala., Edna Helluns of Middleton, Tenn., and Shirley Cogbill of Ashland City, Tenn.; a brother, James Richard Hunter of Panama City, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. today.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Dismuke officiating.

Burial will be at the Dexter Cemetery.
