Joe D. Hornback, 73, of Jackson passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, near Placida, Florida. He was born Aug. 26, 1947, in Sikeston, Missouri, to Sidney and Virginia Lynch Hornback.
He graduated from Egyptian High School in Tamms, Illinois, in 1966. He was drafted by the U.S. Army 1966 and was sent to Germany, where he was trained in nuclear demolition. He was honorably discharged. He then retired from SWB/AT&T after 36 years.
Joe and his wife, Linda Creighton, were married on Feb. 12, 2003 in Las Vegas. They divided their time between Missouri and Florida 18 wonderful years. Joe was an avid hunter and saltwater fisherman and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his children and grandchildren. He took great pride in preserving their trophies with taxidermy.
Papa Joe, a true gentleman, is greatly missed by his wife, Linda Hornback of Jackson; two sons, Mark (Rebekah) Hornback with grandsons Cooper and Jaxon of Oak Ridge and Rhett (Christina) Hornback with grandsons Brayden and Colby of Fruitland; stepson Shannon (Kristi) Wren with granddaughters Lydia and Meredith and grandson Adam of Cape Girardeau; stepdaughter Amanda (Mike) Powell with grandsons Ethan and Isaac and granddaughter Evey of Jackson; two brothers Jerry Hornback of Cobden, Illinois, and Wayne Hornback of Plano, Iowa; three sisters, Shirley Birk of Cape Girardeau, Betty (Jim) Edwards of Tampa, Florida, and Rita (Wayne) Wright of Bloomfield, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings
There will be a private graveside service at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.
