Joe E. Flood, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at St. Mary's Health Center in St. Louis.
He was born April 12, 1930, at Steele, Mo., son of Joe Berry and Zelmer Roosevelt Grindstaff Flood.
Flood went into the Army at 16 and was retired in December 1969 as a U.S. Air Force master sergeant after 22 years of service. He served eight years in the Far East during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War.
He was an alumnus of Southeast Missouri State University, and most recently worked for the Anna Gazette in Anna, Ill.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Rosary Group, Perpetual Adoration at Saint Francis Medical Center, Cursillo Group, and faithful member of Marian Movement for Priests.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Frederick Flood; three sons, Lawrence Edward Flood (Kelly Workman) of Highlands Ranch, Colo., William Frederick Flood (Aisha El-Zorba) of San Ramon, Calif., Gerald Allan Flood (Connie Schmidt) of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Victoria Josephine Wibbenmeyer (Larry) of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Elizabeth Ann Leonard (Jeffrey) of Symsonia, Ky.; and a brother, Bobby Gene Flood of Reno, Nev.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Jason Anton (Kelly Van Buskirk) Wibbenmeyer of Dayton, Ohio, Scott Joseph Wibbenmeyer of St. Louis, Nicholas Andrew Wibbenmeyer of Chicago, Laura Louise Wibbenmeyer of Columbia, Mo., Angela Kay Flood of Arlington Heights, Ill., Robert Edward, Jonathan Frederick and Joah Patrick Flood of Highlands Ranch, Joe Thomas O'Loughlin of Boulder, Colo., Eli Flood of Cape Girardeau, Richard Lowell Leonard of Newport News, Va.; and a great-grandson, Spencer Anthony Wibbenmeyer of Dayton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
The wake will be 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel. The rosary will be recited at 7 by St. Vincent Rosary Group.
Funeral Mass will be at 8 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Charles Prost officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, with full military honors to be conducted.
