TAMMS, Ill. -- JoAnn Benefield, 70, of Tamms, died suddenly at 9:12 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2014 on arrival at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Nov. 21, 1943, in Sandusky, Illinois, to Harry and Margaret Edmundson Bennett.
JoAnn was a self-employed businesswoman and was always successful at her endeavors. She was a lifelong Christian with a heart of gold and was always helping those that were less fortunate.
Survivors include her three sons, Mark (Vicki) Woodney and Todd Woodney, both of Cape Girardeau, and Steve (Lori) Woodney of Jackson; three grandchildren, Zachary Woodney, and Mykenzie and Kayden Griggs; raised as her daughter, Tonya Ramsey; two brothers, Charley (Emma Dell) Bennett of Tamms and Jack (Shirley) Bennett of Anna, Illinois; two sisters, Mary Chester of Belleville, Illinois, and Hazel Vaughn of Anna; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ella Needy and June Plumb; and four brothers-in-law.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Tamms, with the Rev. Michael Vaughn officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery near Olive Branch, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Zion Cemetery, c/o Capaha Bank, P.O. Box 220, Tamms, IL 62988. Envelopes will also be available at any Crain Funeral Home location.
