Betty Joan Scholz, 84, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 8, 1931, in rural Cape Girardeau County to Linville "Bill" and Alma Loos Proffer. She and Bobby Gene Scholz were married Sept. 23, 1953.
Joan was raised in rural Cape Girardeau County. She worked at the former Lee Rowan in Jackson in the early 1950s.
Loving survivors include her husband, Bob, of Jackson; two children, Debbie Blanton of Washington, Missouri, and Randy Scholz of Jackson; a son-in-law, Wayne Wolak of Jackson; a granddaughter, Bobbi Bell of Jackson; a grandson, Kris Blanton of Washington; four great-granddaughters, Autumn Hinkebein, Katie and Brooklyn Phillips and Gabby Bell; and two great-grandsons, Nolan Bell and Logan Blanton.
She was preceded in death by two children, Cheryl "Kay" Wolak and Joe Scholz; a granddaughter, Jami Wolak; a brother, Rick Proffer; and her parents.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. The committal service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Missouri Veterans Home Foundation.
