Joan Louise Johnson, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 1, 2021, at The Lutheran Home.
She was born Aug. 9, 1932, in Ancell, Missouri, to Virgil and Barbara J. Diebold Hopkins.
She and Jack Francis Johnson were married April 11, 1953 at Kelso, Missouri. He preceded her in death Dec. 30, 2009.
Joan was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino. She loved cooking and crocheting; she crocheted blankets for Birthright. She also loved being a grandma and great-grandma.
Survivors include sons, Roger (Tracy) Johnson, Mike Johnson and Robert Johnson, all of Springfield, Missouri, Ken (Tarolyn) Johnson of Cape Girardeau and Jim (Kara) Johnson of Boise, Idaho; daughter, Cathy (Mike Hawkins) Fowler of Cape Girardeau; brother, Joseph (fiance', Maria) Hopkins of Seattle; sisters, Betty Buttrey, Mary (Larry) Essner and Barbara (David) Sander of Cape Girardeau; brother-in-law, Kenny (Bev) Johnson of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Delores Mier; and grandsons, Joseph and Joshua Fowler.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
