J.O. Sides
James O. "J.O." Sides, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, June 27, 2008, at his home.
He was born Dec. 17, 1917, at Indian Creek, son of Pearl and Jeffie Abernathy Sides. He and Emma Jean Harris were married Feb. 4, 1939, in Cape Girardeau. She died April 24, 1994.
Sides was a chief engineer 35 years on the Mississippi River. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and basketball fan. He was of the Methodist belief.
Survivors include three daughters, Vicki Clarke of Raleigh, N.C., Donna (Mike) Price of Cape Girardeau, Mary Ann (Ron) Wyatt of Greensboro, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Kay Sides of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Hazel Schloss of Jackson; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, James R. Sides, four brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
