SIKESTON -- Funeral for J.L. Wells of Sikeston will be held at 2 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Wells, 69, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 3, 1929, in Tallapoosa, son of Charles and Myrtle Walls Wells. He and Aleene Allen were married June 16, 1951.
Wells worked at Laclede Gas Co. in St. Louis 17 years. He was a member of Smith Avenue Church of God. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth Wells of Sikeston; six sisters, Hester Chalk and Loeda Haynes of Parma, Elsie Tate of South Lyon, Mich., Wilma Strong and Sam Percca of Collinsville, Ill., and Laveda Emmons of Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
