Jimmie G. Lawrence, son of the late John H. and Chloe Robling Lawrence, was born June 23, 1934, in Gray Ridge, Missouri, and departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau at the age of 84 years.

Jimmie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dexter, Missouri.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served as superintendent for Richland School District for many years and was a respected member of the community. He enjoyed hunting, working in his yard and, after his retirement in education, working with his son at North Ridge Veterinary Clinic in Sikeston, Missouri.

On March 27, 1955, he was united in marriage to Linda Faye Parks in Gray Ridge. Linda preceded him in death Aug. 25, 2011.

Survivors include a son, Jeffery H. Lawrence, and wife, Dianne, of Cape Girardeau; a sister, June Mathis, and husband Vernon of Dexter; two grandchildren, Kelsey Dianne Gibson and husband, Dane, and Sarah Elliott Lawrence; and many other relatives and friends.

Friends may call at 4:30 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Greg Mathis officiating. Interment will follow in Dexter Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Home, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
