VANDUSER, Mo. -- On Friday, May 22, 2020, Jimmie Glen "Jim" Johnson, 79, passed away due to complications from a stroke.
Jim was born Aug. 16, 1940, to A.D. "Jim" and Mildred Weaks Johnson in Vanduser.
He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. After graduation in 1962, he returned home to Vanduser, where he ran the family farm and managed Vanduser Gin Co. from 1987 to 2010.
On June 2, 1962, he married Suzy Sherry, and they raised four children, Sherry, Steve, Carol and Andy.
Jim was a member of numerous advisory boards and agricultural organizations through the years. He was particularly proud of serving on the Cotton Board for 18 years, serving the last four as a member of the executive committee. He was also a member of Scott County Central School Board for 12 years, Delta Center Advisory Board and the Federal Land Bank Board of Directors. He received the Sikeston (Missouri) Regional Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Award in 1999 and was a member of Vanduser Baptist Church.
He loved to travel, read, fish and work in his yard.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Suzy Johnson; children, Sherry (Rod) Laubenstein, Steve (Lisa Watkins) Johnson, Carol Marschel and Andy (Chrissy Long) Johnson; grandchildren, Katie, Chris and Jack Johnson, Lane Kesler, Abby, Alex and Emma Marschel and Anna and Aiden Laubenstein; sisters, Joyce Bernhard and Donna (Colie) Taylor; mother-in-law, Marionne Sherry; brothers-in-law, Jay Sherry and Mike (Barbara) Sherry; and many nieces, nephews and cousins
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Vernon Sherry; son-in-law, Larry Marschel; and brother-in-law, Kent Bernhard.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. June 27 at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, followed by a celebration of life service at 2 p.m.
