L. James Huber, 79, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at Perry Oaks Manor in Perryville, Mo.

He was born July 5, 1927, at Perryville, son of Edwin F. Huber and Inice C. Colin Huber. He and Velma L. Gibbar were married July 24, 1948, in Perryville.

Huber was a World War II Navy Veteran, served as Perryville Police Chief from 1982 to 1985 and was a Deputy U.S. Marshal from 1985 to 1990. He was a Perry County Deputy Sheriff from 1980 to 1982. He was owner and operator of Huber's House of Color for 20 years. He was a member of American Legion and VFW, and third degree Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Muriel Beeson of Perryville and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lt. Bert Huber.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville. Parish prayers with K of C will be at 7 p.m. with an American Legion service to follow. Visitation will continue 6:30 to 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday and the rosary will be recited at 8 a.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville. The Rev. Kevin Fausz will officiate and burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery with military honors.
