TAMMS, Ill. — Jimmy Dean Dowdy, 68, of Tamms passed away at 5:25 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Jim was born Oct. 8, 1948, in Cairo, Illinois, son of the late Norman and Juanita Bennett Dowdy.
Jim was a member of Tamms Baptist Church. He was an auctioneer for over 20 years with Barks Auction Services in Southeast Missouri.
Jim loved his God, his family and auctioneering.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Juanita Dowdy, and a sister, Nancy Williams.
Survivors includes his wife, Glenda M. Dowdy of Tamms; a daughter, Melissa Gowin; two sons, Jimmy Neil Dowdy and Brian Dean Dowdy; a brother, Kenny Dowdy of Ullin, Illinois; his adored seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and a great-stepgrandchild; and a host of other relatives, including four special aunts who were very special to Jim.
Friends may call between 5 and 8 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Bob Kirby officiating. Interment will be in Olive Branch Cemetery in Olive Branch, Illinois.
