Jiles Elza "J.E." Deevers, 92, of Cape Girardeau, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, at his home.

He was born April 2, 1929, in Cape Girardeau to the late Glenn H. and Lorena A. Whittaker Deevers. J.E. and Sally Ann Loos were united in marriage May 1, 1954, at St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau and she survives.

He completed elementary grades at the former Juden School and attended the former College High School.

J.E. proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his service he worked at B&W Transport for many years, retiring at the age of 62.

He and his wife, along with their five children, worked in the fields of their "Deevers Strawberry Farm." J.E. and Sally continued the strawberry farm for several years. He and Sally loved camping with their friends and family. J.E. loved all animals. He was especially fond of his dogs Heidi and Ginger. He loved the outdoors and staying busy on his farm.

He leaves behind his wife Sally of 67 years; children, Marilyn (Dewayne) Fuller of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, Jo Ann (Jim) Askins of Park City, Utah, Teresa (Darrell) Keys of Delta and David Deevers of Jonesboro, Arkansas; grandchildren, Travis (Kara) Keys, Tyler (David) Daley-Keys, Abby (Corey) Riney, Hailey Fuller, Jessica (Ross) Baker, Jake Stack, Cole and Cian Deevers, Lacy Deevers-McLendon; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Allie and Jax Riney, Hazel and Finn Baker, Trevor Keys and Jaidyn Young; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Deevers; great-grandson, Hunter Keefer; daughter-in-law, Christy Deevers; sisters, Eileen Deevers and Glenda Eddleman; brothers, Jean Deevers and James Deevers.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Alex Sutachan officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at St. Mary Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the Saint Francis Hospice team and the many care givers who spent time with J.E.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Southeast Missouri Pets.
