LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Edna Jewel Sitze Lynn, 96, formerly of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Sayre Christian Village in Lexington.
Jewel was born in Lutesville, Missouri, to Edna and Isaac John Franklin Sitze on April 7, 1921.
She married Robert Kenneth Lynn on July 27, 1943, right before Kenneth left for Germany with the U.S. Army Band to join the fight in WWII. Jewel and Kenneth spent the years after the war teaching in Paducah. Jewel was a high-school English teacher before ending her career as a first-grade teacher at McNabb Elementary in Paducah. Also, she sang in the choir, and she and Kenneth served as UMYF leaders for many years at Broadway United Methodist Church.
Jewel's emphasis on proper grammar was instilled in the five children she and Kenneth raised: Bob (Clare) Lynn of Bluebell, Pennsylvania, John (Tancy) Lynn, Sarah (Scot) Reeves of Lexington, Laura (Terry Mattingly) Lynn of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Lisa (Gerry) Puckett of Murray, Kentucky. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Eric (Jen) Lynn, Thad (Jen) Lynn, Nicole Lynn, Michelle Lynn, Bobby Puckett and Brian Puckett; her great grandchildren, Kathryn and Tory Lynn and Madison and Thomas Lynn; and her niece, Mary Sitze.
Jewel was preceded in death by Kenneth, her husband of 51 years; her brother, Paul Franklin Sitze; and one niece.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Milner and Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Paducah.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Greg Waldrop officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
A "come-and-go" memorial gathering also will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at Sayre Christian Village in Lexington.
