Funeral for Jesse Walton Hand of Cape Girardeau will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel, with the Rev. Cy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson.

Friends may call at the chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.

Hand, 79, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born July 21, 1918, in Cape Girardeau, son of Thomas J. and Agnes Leeds Hand. He and Bessie Hahn were married March 29, 1941, in Cape Girardeau.

Hand had been a painter, then worked at Marquette Cement 36 years, retiring in 1980. He made wire jewelry many years and sold it through a mail order business.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and member of American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Dorothy Fornkohl of Bunker, Judy Walton of Sacramento, Calif., Joyce Keller of Glen Carbon, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother, a sister, and a grandchild.
