ADVANCE, Mo. -- Jerry Winchester, 82, of Advance passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Jan. 4, 1932, at Glennon, Mo., son of Omer Edward and Pearl Ann Harris Winchester. Jerry and Linda Marie Smith were married Dec. 13, 1963, at Granite City, Ill. She preceded him in death Jan. 20, 2003.
Jerry retired from Terminal Railroad in Granite City after 36 years of service. He was a member of Advance VFW, Dongola Friendship Baptist Church and Dongola Cemetery Association.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War.
Survivors include a son, George Smith of Pontoon Beach, Ill.; three daughters, Linda Ann Winchester Tomlinson, Lisa Ann Canter and Lori Ann Winchester, all of Advance; three brothers, Jim and Don Winchester of Marble Hill, Mo., and Scott Markham of Advance; a sister, Joyce Holder of Advance; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife; father, Omer Winchester; mother, Pearl Markham; and stepfather, Norman Markham.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Dongola Friendship Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronnie Winchester will officiate. Burial will be in Dongola Cemetery with full military rites.
