Jerry B. Sample, 68, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at his home.
He was born Sept. 27, 1935, in Cape Girardeau, son of Rufus and Lucille Stotler Sample. He married Molly Kester, who died in 1982. He later married Lillian Huskey Busch Oct. 29, 1988, in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Sample was a graduate of Central High School. He worked for E.W. Robinson Lumber Co. and D&G Builders. He later worked 31 years for Missouri Utilities, Union Electric and AmerenUE, retiring in 1994.
He and his first wife owned and operated Kester's Place on Big Bend Road.
Mr. Sample attended Red Star Baptist Church. He was a former member of Eagles Aerie 3775 and Elks Lodge 639.
He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 15, 1956, to Feb. 13, 1958.
Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Richard Whitaker and wife Carol of Scott City; three stepdaughters, Judy Young, Linda Cunningham and husband Ronnie, and Nancy DePauw, all of Cape Girardeau; a brother, James Sample and wife Ruth of Cape Girardeau; a number of stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum, with the Rev. Rocky Tallent officiating.
