CAIRO, Ill. -- Jerry Lynn Rednour, 66, of Cairo passed away at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, July 3, 2016, at his home in Cairo. He was born Aug. 30, 1949, in Cairo, the son of Floyd and Nellie (Gregory) Rednour. He married Rebecca A. Phillips on May 6, 1991. Jerry graduated from Cairo High School in 1967. CAIRO, Ill. -- Jerry Lynn Rednour, 66, of Cairo passed away at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, July 3, 2016, at his home in Cairo.

He was born Aug. 30, 1949, in Cairo, the son of Floyd and Nellie (Gregory) Rednour. He married Rebecca A. Phillips on May 6, 1991.

Jerry graduated from Cairo High School in 1967. He was an excellent athlete in the track and field area. Jerry worked as a deputy sheriff under Donald Turner in Alexander County, Illinois.

He also worked as the security supervisor at Harrah's Casino in Metropolis, Illinois.

He recently retired from Nissan in Cape Girardeau.

He was the exalted ruler of Elks Lodge in Cairo in the early 1970s. In his spare time, he enjoyed yard work and landscaping and was a loyal rescuer of dogs. He was a member of First Southern Baptist in Cairo.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Rebecca A. Rednour of Cairo; daughters, Shanna Kruse and Bethany Young, both of Alton, Illinois, and Jamie Loften of Springfield, Illinois; a stepdaughter, Rhonda Cearley of Paducah, Kentucky; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers Nelson R. Rednour of Cairo and Floyd A. "Nicky" Rednour of Covington, Kentucky; many nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Victor and Joseph Rednour; and a son, Brian Rednour.

Friends may gather from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Crain Funeral Home in Cairo.

Memorial service will be at 1 p.m., following the gathering at the funeral home.

According to Jerry's wishes, his body was donated to the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

Memorials may be made to PAWS of Anna, Illinois, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
