BENTON, Mo. — Jerry Peters, son of the late John Albert and Mabel Ann Woods Peters, was born Sept. 15, 1946, in Sikeston, Missouri, and departed his life Sunday, March 12, 2023, at his home in Benton at the age of 76.

He was a graduate of Charleston (Missouri) High School and Draughon Drafting College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany as a private truck driver. After rendering his service in the Army, Jerry was a former truck driver for 20 years before spending a majority of his career as a self-employed contractor and carpenter before his retirement in 2020.

In 1976, he was united in marriage to Patricia Gale Presswood in Hernando, Mississippi. She survives of the home.

Besides his wife, other survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Peters and Shannon (Landon) LeGrand, both of Benton; five grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life, Raven (Eli) Jackson, Heather (Tommy) Bridges, Jerret (Kaelyn) Nicoson, Brooklyn LeGrand and Jaxson Riley; five great-grandchildren, Addilyn, Annistyn, Emmie, Ellie and Evvie; and a great-grandson due in May 2023. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 17, at Unity Baptist Church in Benton, conducted by the Rev. Dennis Lowe. Interment, with a full military service, will follow in the church cemetery.
