SIKESTON, Mo. -- Jerry Newton, 58, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 15, 1945, in Gideon, Mo., son of Clelon James and Ada Virdell Branch Newton, of St. Paul, Mo. He married J. Colleen Charles on Jan. 8, 1971.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marston, Mo., and a retired veterans' representative for the Missouri Workforce Development Center.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was wounded in battle April 10, 1968, and received the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; three daughters, Laura Newton Landers of Sikeston, Emily Newton of St. Louis, and Amy Newton Long of Portage-ville, Mo.; four sisters, Diane Newton Foley of St. Paul, Mo., Debbie Newton Fields of Winghaven, Mo., Sandy Newton Goodfellow of Warrenton, Mo., Cynthia Newton Wiley of Dardenne Prairie, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston with the Rev. Rick Lasley officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
