Jerry R. Jenkins, 55, of Jackson died Saturday, Oct, 27, 2007, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 4, 1951, in Cape Girardeau, son of Raymond B. and Alma Huffman Jenkins. He and Jane Summers Jenkins were married Sept. 26, 1981, in Cape Girardeau.
Jenkins served in the U.S. Marines Corps from April 1969, to March 1973 and then in the Marine Corps Reserve until March 1975.
He was a member of Maple Avenue Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. Jenkins was a member of Teamsters Local 600, VFW Post 3838. He was past post commander, past district commander, past state officer and held appointed state and national VFW offices. Jenkins was a member of the Elks, American Legion, AmVets, Marine Corps League and the Eagles Club in Advance, Mo. He was the past chairman of the Joint Veterans Council of Cape Girardeau. Jenkins worked for Bloomsdale Excavating Co., Charlie's Auto Body and Contrend Construction Co.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Jenkins of Jackson; a son, Derek Jenkins of Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Wanda Conrad of Cape Girardeau; longtime friends Paul and Debbie Griffin of Jackson; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Cooper officiating.
Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may be made to VFW Post 3838 Building Fund or VFW Post 3838 Ladies Auxilary Cancer Fund.
