Jerry Alvin Hampton, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 9, 2020, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born April 25, 1945, in Pascola, Missouri, to Alvin Frederick and Gloria Jean Byrd Hampton. He and Betty Tanner were married June 12, 1965, in Sikeston, Missouri.

Jerry was actively involved in Boy Scouts as a scout master and other positions in the Southeast Missouri Council from 1968 to the present.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Elks, Kiwanis and Eagles.

He worked as a supervisor with Town and Country Supermarkets out of Fredericktown, Missouri, for 30-plus years.

He was a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Hampton of Cape Girardeau; mother, Gloria Jean Hampton of Sycamore, Illinois; sons, Chris (Aimee) Hampton of Marble Hill, Missouri, Matt (Kate) Hampton of Jackson and Eric Hampton of Cape Girardeau; brothers, Rick Hampton of DeKalb, Illinois, Mike Hampton of Sycamore, Tom Hampton of Sunnyvale, California, and David Hampton of Sycamore; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; daughter, Christina Rene Hampton; son, James Alvin Hampton; sisters, Sandra Franklin and Penny Dorenbos; and brother, Larry Hampton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, there will be a special Boy Scout ceremony. All are welcome.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe McCullough officiating. Burial will be at Garden of Memories in Sikeston.

Memorial contributions may be given to Missouri Veterans Home.
