JACKSON -- Gerald G. "Jerry" Friedrich, 78, of Jackson died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at his home.

He was born March 3, 1921, son of Tony H. and Helen Grant Friedrich. He and Elsie L. Ralls were married June 6, 1942, at Charleston, She died Oct. 29, 1988.

Friedrich worked at the former Jackson Hosiery Mill 15 years, and was a letter carrier with U.S. Postal Service 23 years. He was also a conductor with St. Louis Iron Mountain Railroad a number of years.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a core member of RCIA, and had been a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of American Legion Post 158.

Friedrich served with the U.S. Army Air Force in Africa and Italy during World War II. He received the Combat Crew Members Badge, two Presidential Unit Citations, Bronze Star, African-European-Middle Eastern Combat Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Ribbon.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Friedrich of St. Louis, Bill Friedrich of Jackson; two daughters, Toni Schweain of Jackson, Becky Brandon of Benton; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today. The rosary will be recited at 7.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Msgr. Edward Eftink will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
