ALTENBURG, Mo. -- Jeannette Vogel Boehme, 99, passed away Friday, July 2, 2010, at home in Broomfield, Colo.

She was the wife of the late Eugene Boehme of Altenburg.

Born in Cape Girardeau County, Mo., in 1911, she devoted her life to her family and a long teaching career.

She began teaching in 1929 at the age of 18 in a one-room school in Wittenberg, Mo. Her teaching career included Concordia Lutheran School, Frohna, Mo.; Trinity Lutheran School, Altenburg, and Perryville High School, Perryville, Mo., where she taught math and served as senior guidance counselor 14 years.

Jeannette received a bachelor of arts degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University and a master's degree from Missouri University.

She served as president of the board of directors of Perry County Public School District 48 for 10 years. She also served on the board of directors for the Missouri Association of High School Student Council; the Governors Board of Assessment for High School Achievement for the State of Missouri; and was a founding member of the Community Counseling Center serving Cape, Perry and Ste. Genevieve counties that provides comprehensive mental health counseling to students and families. She was awarded the Pioneer in Education Award by the governor of Missouri in 1993.

Jeannette was active in Lutheran Women's Missionary League of Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, serving on the executive board. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, and Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Broomfield.

A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by five children; daughter Betty Kassel and Bert Kassel of Broomfield, daughter Barbara Barnes of Atlanta, daughter Jeanne Sturim and Dr. Howard Sturim of Providence, R.I., daughter Kathleen Weinrich and Alfred Weinrich of Anderson, Ind.; and son Charles Boehme of Salt Lake City; 15 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 3031 West 144th Ave., Broomfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in her honor to the Community Counseling Center Foundation, 402 S. Silver Springs Road, Cape Girardeau, MO 63703, or to Risen Savior Lutheran Church of Broomfield, CO 80023.

Rundus Funeral Home in Broomfield is in charge of arrangements.
