Betty Jeanette Wichern, 85, of Shawneetown passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 13, 1933, in Pell City, Alabama, daughter of Charlton King and Myrtle Irene McAlister Davis. She and John Walter Wichern were married Sept. 25, 1958.

Jeanette was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. She was a member of the church's Ladies Aid and a former Sunday school teacher. Jeanette was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and dedicated her life to her family. She loved time together with her grandchildren and received great pleasure in being a great-grandmother. She also enjoyed crafts, being a 4-H leader and gardening.

Loving survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, John Wichern of Shawneetown; two children, Joy Smith of Jackson and James (Debra) Wichern of Lenexa, Kansas; four granddaughters; three grandsons-in-laws; and seven great-grandchildren, with one soon to arrive. Also surviving are three sisters and a brother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Virgil Kelm officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery in Pocahontas.

The family suggests contributions be made to Autism Awareness of Southeast Missouri, P.O. Box 57 Jackson, MO 63755.
