Jean Catherine Essner Menz, 81, daughter of the late Joseph Eugene Essner and Loretta Schaefer Essner was born on Jan. 26, 1941, in Rockview, Missouri, and departed this life on Monday, March 21, 2022, at her home in New Hamburg, Missouri.
On Nov. 28, 1959, she was united in marriage to Harold Clemens Menz at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee, Missouri. He preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2022. After being married for 62 years, the couple was reunited in death after 10 short weeks.
She was employed at Florsheim Shoe Company for 37 years. After retirement, she was actively involved in the farming operation, Menz Farm and Grain Supply, Incorporated. Jean was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg and St. Ann's Sodality.
Jean was a devoted loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She displayed her love through many home cooked meals, and family gatherings around her kitchen table. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (Doug) Johnson of New Hamburg and Karen (David) Harper of New Hamburg; one son, Doug (Ann) Menz of New Hamburg; two brothers, Melvin (Pat) Essner of Scott City and Alfred (Frances) Essner of Bloomsdale, Missouri; one twin sister, Janet Layman of Cape Girardeau; also, by four grandchildren, Allison (Chad) Fodge, Kristin Tyra (Ben Johnson), Brett (Rachel) Harper and Grant Menz; five great-grandchildren, Harper Tyra, Sophie Fodge, Reagan Tyra, Easton Fodge and Owen Harper.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brother-in-law's, H.L. Layman and Larry Menz and a sister-in-law, Edith Menz.
Visitation and Eucharistic Celebration will be held Friday with the Rev. Bala Swamy Govindu officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in New Hamburg.
Family request all services be private, immediate family only, thoughts and prayers will be greatly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the Menz family requests that all memorials be made to St. Judes's and Jesus in Disguise Food Pantry.
