WOLF LAKE, Ill. -- Jean Markert, 75, of Wolf Lake died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at Jonesboro Rehab and Health Care Center.

She was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Grand Tower, Ill., daughter of Riley and Esther Foster Knight. She and Marion Markert were married on May 29, 1954, at Tunica, Miss.

Markert provided child care in her home in Wolf Lake for many years and retired from teaching at Tri-County Special Education Center in Anna, Ill. She was a member of Wolf Lake United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Annette Vanover of Ware, Ill., and Toni Ernst of St. Louis; a brother, Ellison Knight of Jonesboro, Ill.; two sisters, Louise Skaggs of Cape Girardeau and Ruth Duke of San Antonio; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Stephanie Shimwell will officiate, with burial in the Walker Hill Cemetery in Grand Tower.
