INDIANAPOLIS -- J.D. Littrell, 73, of Indianapolis and formerly of East Prairie died Friday, Dec. 22, 1995, at the Richard L. Roudebush V.A. Medical Center in Indianapolis.

He was born July 19, 1922, in St. Joseph, Tenn., son of the late John Daniel and Kizzie Zore Comer Littrell. He lived in Lawrence County, Tenn., until his family moved to Southeast Missouri in the 1930s. He lived there until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served as a seaman in the South Pacific and as a member of the Navy Sea Bees. After World War II he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict, where was awarded the Purple Heart three times. He retired from the military in 1964 and settled in Indianapolis, where he remained until his death.

He married Opal Imogene Hampton Littrell, who preceded him in death. He later married Gertrude Anita Bock, who survives. Other survivors include three sons: Troy Lee Littrell and Richard Noble Littrell, both of Fort Myers, Fla.; and Glenn David Littrell of Indianapolis; a brother, Albert Rubin Littrell of Fort Myers; two sisters: Ollie Onine Littrell Curtis of Marston, and Bertha Ann Littrell Thurman of Charleston; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by five brothers: Jessie Daniel Littrell, Troy "Dick" Littrell, Nobel James Littrell, Redford Littrell, Oliver James Littrell and Leslie Littrell; and two sisters: Verily Viola "Sis" Littrell Johnston and Leatha Mae Littrell Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, with the Rev. Bill Ballwin of the Evergreen Baptist Church in Marston officiating. Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.

Graveside military rites will be performed by the New Madrid American Legion Post.
