J.D. Green, 78, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at his home.
He was born Feb. 1, 1936, in rural Jackson to Robert G. and Maggie E. Grindstaff Green. He and Marcella Farrow were married June 21, 1959, at First Baptist Church in Jackson.
J.D. worked at the former LaPierre-Sawyer Handle Factory, Ceramo, and Lenco, all in Jackson.
He loved being with his grandchildren, especially letting them ride his lawn tractor with him. He had an appreciation for older movies, particularly westerns, and he enjoyed traveling the mountain regions of the western U.S.
Loving survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marcella of Jackson; three children, Jennifer (Jay) Elliott and daughter Makala of Sikeston, Missouri, Christopher (Racquel) Green and son Justin of Jackson, Stephen Green and son Braxton of Jackson; a sister, Annie Pruitt of Cape Girardeau; a brother-in-law, Raymond (the late Vergie) Smith of Jackson; three sisters-in-law, Nellie (the late Robert Jr.) Green, Katie (the late Dayton) Green and LaFern Judd, all of Jackson; and mother-in-law, Vera (the late Arnold W.) Farrow of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ruth Ann (Wayne) Mayfield.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Lung Association.
