CANALOU, Mo. -- James "J.D." Basinger, 68, of Canalou died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at Sells Rest Home in Matthews, Mo. He was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Pocahontas, Ark., son of Delbert and Ida Ellen Jackson Basinger. He married Armetta Faye Chapman, who died Sept. 22, 2002...

CANALOU, Mo. -- James "J.D." Basinger, 68, of Canalou died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at Sells Rest Home in Matthews, Mo.

He was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Pocahontas, Ark., son of Delbert and Ida Ellen Jackson Basinger. He married Armetta Faye Chapman, who died Sept. 22, 2002.

Basinger had worked at Noranda Aluminum, and attended Big Ridge General Baptist Church.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include three daughters, Anita Drake, Lavonna Foraker and Donna Mitchell, all of Canalou; two brothers, Carl and Allen Basinger of Sikeston, Mo.; five sisters, Shirley Wallace of Arizona, Mary Vincent, Wanda Hinshaw, Mae Stokes and Ola Basinger, all of Sikeston; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gaylord Grindstaff officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston, with full military honors by American Legion Post 595 in New Madrid, Mo.
