SCOTT CITY -- James Charles "J.C." Whitworth, 72, of Scott City died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Chaffee Nursing Center.
He was born Dec. 29, 1927, at Catron, son of James Roosevelt and Myrtle Lynn Whitworth. He and Edith Marie Sturm were married Sept. 18, 1946, at Fornfelt. She died Feb. 22, 2000.
Whitworth had been a deckhand with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and had worked at Carlos Grocery in Fornfelt.
He moved to Scott City 53 years ago from Peach Orchard. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include four sons, Marshall, Jay and Randy Whitworth of Scott City, Rick Whitworth of Chaffee; a daughter, Brenda Bles of Scott City; a brother, Audrey Whitworth of Poplar Bluff; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City after 5 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Revs. Randy Morse and Chad Bles officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Memorial Cemetery.
